I believe they start comb in the center so they can manage temperature of the brood..hot or cold can kill the brood. If the weather is decent I will checkerboard my frames to get them to build comb faster... although in the super behind the queen excluder they seem to build all frames about the same speed..center and sides

Hi Anna I watched a video of yours where you used thyme oil & coconut soaked cheese cloth on top of the frames in the hive to combat varroa mites - was this successful ? I cannot find the follow up video Thank you so much for your knowledge Carmel 🐝💛🐝

I have been changing my way of managing my bees and one of the methods I plan to use is what is being explained in these videos. I have never come across this method till now and I believe it is confirmation that what I am incorporating into my bee keeping this year is the right way to go for 100% success.

I used to check my hives in just regular clothes (never anything dark or black, never anything sleeveless or a tank top), and always a veil. I took a few stings here and there but, one afternoon, just watering some flowers about 25 feet from my hives, I got stung on the back of my hand. After a lifetime of nothing more than mild localized reactions to stings I was, within 5 minutes, experiencing a full-on anaphylactic reaction to that sting. I immediately called an ambulancel, took 50mg of Benadryl and spent the rest of the day in the ER (at the hospital where I am employed as an RN...how humiliating! LOL!) The next day, after I picked up my epi-pen prescription, I went to my local apiary supply and bought a full suit. I wear double nitrile gloves to protect my hands and still have had some mild stings (stingers that didn't fully penetrate my skin and stuck in the glove instead of me). I tell this precautionary tale as a way of encouraging people to feel no shame in taking these measures. One can go for years and not have any problems (like me) but, after prolonged, repeated exposure, can develop an allergy that could be life threatening. I saw this video a couple of years ago and am now going to give it a try. I am glad to see an interest in chemical free beekeeping growing! I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more!

I have thyme in the garden. I might try blending leaves into the coconut oil, or steep in alcohol, and blender that into sugar syrup.

Hello Anna, is there something to kill the moth and to prevent it not to enter into he bee hive ? ( like the Thyme oil do to the mites, or they need to be squashed or burnt ? ) Thank you so much, and I'm sorry for that family loss.
